The painting Fighting for Freedom soberly displays two airplanes, the so-called gliders or “Horsas” from which the paratroopers were dropped. This is taking place above the fields of Renkum, drop zone X. Huge numbers of such aircrafts must have made this journey. According to eyewitnesses, this was a truly momentous occasion and the thousands of parachutists coming down a symbol of hope and “liberty at last”.
