This painting shows one of the 1,568 Polish paratroopers descending over drop zone K, near Driel, flown there by one hundred fourteen airplanes. They were met with mortar shelling and machine gun fire by the Germans, who knew they were coming. Many of the airborne troops perished in the ambush.
